“The Fault in our Stars” by John Green
What do you get when a girl named Hazel meets a boy named Augustus? You have a story about fighting for life and loving with hope. Hazel has cancer in her lungs and has to carry around oxygen in a tank. Then she meets Augustus and her whole story changes. I think what I liked best about this book was that she was real, in a sense that anyone can relate to her. Catch this book in theaters June 6.*
“Treasure Island” by Robert Louis Stevenson
What goes better with the sun and the beach than pirates? The classical tale of treasure island is sure to put anyone in the mood for an adventure on the sea…or the beach if sailing not your thing. Follow the young Jim Hawkins as he sails the seas on his search for treasure and adventure with the infamous Long John Silver and his crew of buccaneers.*
“Faking 19” by Alyson Noel
If you are into the “run of the mill” beach stories, Faking 19 is the best choice. Alex is your average seventeen year old, with popular friends and a nice suburban place in Orange County. But one night with her friend M. at a celebrity party puts them both in a bad situation. Everyone thinks they’re nineteen, and M. and Alex take full advantage of it, unaware of the consequences soon to come.*
“Maze Runner” by James Dashner
Thomas has no memory and is trapped in a maze with other boys and with no way out. All Thomas has to do is piece together all of the fragments of his past with clues he finds in the maze, easier said than done. Can Thomas hope to find a way home? Maze Runner is a unique take on the post-apocalyptic genre. The plot was a bit hard to get into but after a few chapters the story finally sets in. This book is a good recommendation for fans of the Hunger Games series and will also be in theaters Sept 19. *
*Disclaimer: I don’t spoil the endings, so if you want to know the end you better start reading. Ciao.
