Ever since Six Flags and Lionsgate announced their partnership for the project of building a Hunger Games theme park, “The World of Panem,” fans of the book and movie series have been buzzing. Some fans eagerly anticipate the opening of the theme park, which is set to open in June 2016 as an expansion to Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ.
The theme park will include several Hunger Games themed attractions, such as: “District 12 Mine Train” rollercoaster, “Capitol Tours,” and a live re-enactment of “The Hunger Games” where guests can take part in if they wish, but only after signing a waiver. This leaves some fans skeptical of just how safe and family-friendly this theme park will be, while other fans can’t wait for the theme park to open.
Although certain attractions in the park sound pretty gruesome, there are other activities that are more likely to be family-friendly such as The Hob gift shop, The Mellark Bakery restaurant, and a re-creation of the settings of District 12 and the Capitol.
The intentions of Six Flags and Lionsgate by creating this theme park, is to give Hunger Games fans a more realistic glimpse of Panem, and how Katniss may have viewed the world that she lived in.
“Our goal is to is to give fans of ‘The Hunger Games’ the experience of a lifetime. These fans dream about going to Hunger games universe, and now, thanks to our friends at Six Flags, they can,” Senior Vice President of Consumer Products at Lionsgate, Kate Winn said.
