For the second year, the choir will partner with the ninth grade choir for a night of spooky music.
Choir director David Giambrone said that last year was so much fun that it was an easy decision to join up again for this year’s annual Halloween concert to be held on Oct. 29 at 6 p.m in the Sparkman Nine lunchroom.
“I think it was something she (Jennifer Graham) started doing a few years ago that just took.
You combined the festival of Halloween and just something fun with costumes and things like that and it’s a little bit more informal than just a traditional concert. I think people like that and it was a very enjoyable experience for them,” Giambrone said.
The performance if fun, but getting the younger singers ready for advance choir is a real benefit for the entire program. According to Giambrone, the more people involved, the more fun a performance.
“For us it’s a chance to include them in what we are doing so that they get a chance to feel what it’s like to be a part of the overall group,” Giambrone said. “We want them to learn more while they’re in the ninth grade”
Parents can come to the concert and enjoy spooky and memorable songs that will bring back the good ole’ times, included will be a famous Broadway song for the theatre lovers.
“The three songs that we will be singing is a Medley of the Nightmare Before Christmas, we’ll be singing the Time Warp, and That Old House is Han’ted. Now the advanced choir will be singing Defying Gravity from the musical, Wicked and we may have one or two others that we may put in there. Plus the ninth graders will be singing some of their own songs,” Giambrone said.
The fun is free, enjoyable and available for every age! And if you are looking for more of a treat then make sure to have the best costume, prizes are given to the top three crow favorites.
“There are all kinds of games and activities for kids and costume contest. It got a little bit competitive but was very fun. But there’s games like that and face painting and lots of little places where you can get treats and free candy. It a donation of five dollars at the door. The money is a fundraiser for the Sparkman 9 choir so it goes to cover the cost of the materials that they use, sound equipment, and it mostly just goes to support the choir,” Giambrone said.
The combination of both choirs will make the concert more exciting for everyone. The merge will give the ninth graders a chance to have to work with the more experienced choir.
“For us it gives a chance to include them in what we are doing so that they get a chance to feel what it’s like to be a part of the overall group.
Well, the hardest parts about having the ninth graders away from our programs is that we only get to see kids for 3 yrs here and so including the ninth graders in what we do basically gives us another year off with them.”
