Sabrina Carpenter’s new album “Short n’ Sweet” was released on Friday, August 23. The album consists of 12 songs, including hit singles ‘Espresso’ and ‘Please Please Please’, which both reached no.1 on the Hot 100. This is her sixth full-length album, joining the collection of catchy songs, meaningful lyrics and beats that have everyone dancing and singing along. A few weeks after its release, Short n’ Sweet reached the top of the Billboard 200. Carpenter went on Instagram to express her emotions over the milestone and thank her fans: “Can’t express my gratitude. My first #1 album!!!! Thank you for listening to Short n’ Sweet. Thank you for believing in me all these years! Couldn’t do any of this without you :’) this feels really special. love you all.”

Popular songs on this album include:

  • Dumb and Poetic is a song about the falling out with a seemingly perfect partner. Carpenter distinguishes the difference between someone’s words and actions. The song touches on themes of manipulation and the fallout from the perfect persona that a person has created versus their true self.

  • Espresso is a song about the effect Carpenter has on other people, specifically guys. The line “Me espresso” shows the comparison between her and the caffeinated drink that keeps everyone up all day.

  • Please Please Please is a song about being in a relationship with someone that not everyone around you approves of. The lyrics “I promise ‘em that you’re different” are used to show how you defend that person against the assumptions others have. Other lyrics such as “Please please please, don’t prove them right” show how she begs him not to prove the people right who have assumed he’s not right for her.

  • Good Graces is a song about the universal female experience. Carpenter sings about how her nature will not be manipulated in the lines “don’t mistake my nice for naive/I don’t waste a second.” Themes of reassurance and comfort radiate throughout the song with a catchy beat.

  • Sharpest Tool is a song about unrequited feelings and the lack of communication. It’s one of the most lyrical songs on the album along with ‘Slim Pickens’. Carpenter used the title ‘Sharpest Tool” to reference the saying ‘Not the Sharpest in the Shed”.

Along with her new album, Sabrina Carpenter has also come out with a new perfume to add to the Sweet Tooth collection.
