This past weekend, the Sparkman Service Organization traveled to Selma in the wake of the 50th anniversary of “Bloody Sunday.”
The experience was largely transformative for the group. While there, they immersed themselves in the celebration while reflecting on how far we have come as a nation and where we are headed.
Here are a few reflections from some attendees:
"Going down there, I just really wanted to experience first hand a story that has been told to us for years. When we got the opportunity to walk across the Edmund Pettus Bridge, it brought out a lot of emotions but even then I couldn't imagine what was going through the foot soldiers' minds as they planned to walk to Montgomery. I wish my generation had half as much motivation to fight for what they believe in," senior Briann Ryce said.
