Apple Cares
For the past 10 years, Apple has produced (RED) versions of various devices in order to promote and contribute to Product (RED), an organization that fights HIV and AIDs in eight sub-Saharan African countries.
However, Apple had never released a (RED) edition of their signature product: the iPhone. That changed last month when the iPhone 7 joined a long list of other Apple products to be clad in red including: the iPod Nano, iPad, Beats headphones, Mac computers, etc.
Last month, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus Special Edition (RED) were released both having 128GB and 256GB variations. The iPhone 7 (RED) costs $749 for 128GB and $849 for the 256GB version. The iPhone 7 Plus (RED) starts at $869 for 128GB and $969 for 256GB.
Both versions are available online and in stores, but only for a “limited time,” but Apple has not given a concrete timeframe, so if you want one you should get one as soon as possible because they may not be available much longer.
The (RED) iPhone 7 was released to commemorate the 10-year-old partnership between Apple and Product (RED) in which Apple has raised over $130 million for the charity. However, Apple would not disclose what percentage of iPhone 7 (RED) sales would be given to the group.
Out of the 18.2 million HIV-positive people worldwide who are being treated, 10 million are being provided treatment by the Global Fund and Product (RED) in cooperation. The antiretrovirals that they provide boosts an HIV-positive person’s average lifespan back up to that of a healthy person.
So for this limited time, you can get a new phone and save lives for the price of a new phone.
