Band has been to one competition already this semester and this was their earliest competition ever.
Traveling from across the south the band competed under the Bands of America and the competition took place in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Sep. 23.
“Our band placed finals and fourth overall,” senior William Webster said. “We also tied for most outstanding musical performance with Franklin High School.”
Even though it was early in the season the band placed higher than ever before and was awarded one of the three musical awards (music, visual and general) for the first time ever in school history.
“Our show this year is titled ‘Under Pressure’ and is based in a coal mine,” Webster said. “Our show is meant to portray the anxieties and adventures of working in such a dangerous area and we took the show to the competition with us.”
Band plans on going to the Alabama state championship on Oct. 28 and going to the Bands of America at Troy on Nov. 4. Additionally marching season for band is only in the first semester of the school year. Besides competitions band also has performances and plays during and after the football games.
“At every football game we play the same songs in the stands and our favorites are Waverider, Lowrider, Marley, Coco, and Vice Versa,” Webster said.
After marching season band has chair placements and they usually take place during the first few weeks of November. Band has fundraisers to fund their expenses and field trips and competitions.
“So far this year we have done our Mattress Fundraiser and are currently holding our SnapRaise fundraiser which started on October 9th and ends on November 6th and if you are interested in donating let a band kid know,” Webster said.
