Pros and cons of homework
February 9, 2015
Pro:
Homework may not be the most enjoyable thing in the world, but everything in life cannot be dipped in amusement and sprinkled with entertainment.
Homework itself is a means to help students further learn material. Instructions are provided, and the only thing it is missing is the cooperation of the student. There could be a stigma in the fact that it is more work, but, surprise; it’s in the name.
People might think of homework as if it were mystery meat. They sit, stare and wonder what it could be when it could, in fact, be the greatest thing they have ever consumed to date. The poke it and sniff it, but they never taste it to see if they would actually like it, it could even be beneficial to them. Homework can’t be done if there is no effort put in and that is the first step. The second step is time. You cannot put in any kind of effort with no time involved and the same goes with time and no effort. Both are needed for success in every lesson.
Though it may take time and effort, it is so worth it. Homework may count for a small portion of a grade in some instances, but in every instance it adds up. It is more than just more work and less fun, it is essential for a student’s success in the classroom and, contrary to popular belief, it matters greatly.
Con:
I do not like homework because when I go home the last thing I want to do is think about school. When I go home I want to eat, sleep and relax. My brain does not function after 3:30 p m.; it barely functions at school alone. I do not like homework because I am on my own. I do not have a teacher on speed dial or nearby to help me, so if I do not understand it during class, I am not going to be able to do it. Homework is something that makes you go home and do things you would never do otherwise. No one wants to go home and have to recall all that they learned, because if you do not remember the material, it stresses you out. When I go home I want to be as far away from anything school related.
