Sparkman Day success, despite chaos stigma

On July 29, students and parents form lines to receive important back-to-school information.

Every year students are invited back to school to wait in long lines and pick up their much-anticipated schedules, yet some things never change; except for the title of the expo.

Although Sparkman Senator Day did cause some confusion for students and parents, it was a success in preparing students for their return to school. Sparkman Senator Day did exactly what it was meant to do: it gave students the opportunity to get needed essentials before the first day such as decals, schedules and student ID pictures.

The day was more organized than previous years’ expositions. It was also less chaotic navigating the exposition. Each class was allotted times to attend, with sophomores going from 8-10 a.m., seniors from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and juniors from 1-3 p.m.

Sparkman Senator Day gave students the opportunity to purchase parking permits, pay class fees and view projected bus routes and potential extracurricular activities. Various clubs looking to recruit new members, such as the Future Business Leaders of America, yearbook and newspaper staffs, wrestling and dance team, set up tables to inform students about their individual organizations.

While there was a frenzy for schedule change forms and stacks of requests, counselors and administration at least got classes into students’ hands, as they faced a two week timeline in which they had to complete schedules. Even though there were mishaps, some students were still able to turn in their request forms and have changes made for the first day.
