Politics is the most debated topic in the United States at the moment. And with it being an election year, it is becoming even more of a controversial topic. We are seeing plenty of new things on the political scene.
One of those things is Kamala Harris being the first ever woman of color to run for president. She is breaking many barriers, but so is Donald Trump. He is the first-ever ex-president and convicted felon to run for president. They are running with very different backgrounds.
Besides the different backgrounds, they also have very different methods of rallying support. At Kamala Harris’s recent rally, Harris featured a performance from Grammy Award Winner Megan Thee Stallion. Megan Thee Stallion is a decorated artist, businesswoman, student and more. The public loves her and overall has a positive public opinion. She performed for Harris endorsing her as the next president. She not only performed at Harris’s rally but also created the slogan “Hotties for Harris”.
Trump also had popular performers at his rally including Kid Rock. Kid Rock has had a long career and gained traction in the rock, hip-hop and rap industries. While he hasn’t been in the spotlight in a couple of years, he stepped back on the scene to perform at Trump’s rally. In the rally, he performed an altered version of his hit song “American Bad A-”. The crowd was chanting “Trump, Trump” instead of the original words “Fight, Fight”. He is one of the biggest names in the rock community and was nominated several times for Grammies. In 2000, he was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best New Artist. Since then he has been nominated for five separate Grammy awards, but he has yet to win a Grammy himself.
Besides these two several other celebrities are supporting Trump and Harris. They have not been shy at all. When it comes to supporting their political candidates they have been quite vocal.
One of the most vocal among these is Elon Musk. After he bought Twitter last year, one of the first things he did was unban Trump. Since then Musk has been nothing but supportive of him. On Twitter, he announced his official endorsement of Trump last month.
Olivia Rodrigo posted on Twitter about how she supports Harris on her plan to lift abortion bans and give back contraceptive freedoms. Charli XCX was another vocal supporter of Harris. She posted “Kamala IS Brat” and her fans have also been showing the same support.
It’s not new for us to see fans rallying behind and defending their favorite celebrities. Public figures, like celebrities, have a huge sway over the public. They also have an advantage in the way they can reach large groups with their platforms. With a single post, they can get their opinion to millions worldwide.
While it is important for celebrities and public figures to share their opinions, they should be mindful of what they put out for their audience. Celebrities should be active in politics because they are citizens and are affected by what happens in government. As important as it is for celebrities to speak out, it is just as important for celebrities to support the right ideas that represent who they are.
