Scary Hours: Perspectives on Halloween

The holidays are an exciting and fun time of year. However, many people view these times differently. Halloween is right around the corner, and it’s arguably one of the most evenly liked and disliked holidays. Most people find Halloween a time to celebrate and enjoy the festive season. “I love Halloween, it makes me happy because of the colder weather and trick or treating,” Junior Omari Clemons said, “What sparked my interest in Halloween was dressing up as Luigi in the second grade.” A selective group loves Halloween for different reasons. “I can’t wait until Halloween. Haunted houses are my favorite, I love the suspense you feel while walking through them,” Senior Ryan Washington said, “One time I got chased by a fake chainsaw in Doomsday.”

An interesting perspective on the Halloween season is that some people don’t care about it. “It’s really overhyped, it was only fun when we were kids,” Senior Megan Wilbanks said, “There’s nothing special about Halloween, it just gets more boring the older we get.” In certain people’s point of view, Halloween is okay. Not too bad, not too good. “I’m not the biggest fan of Halloween but it can be a great night with a lot of fun,” History Teacher Andrea Metoyer said. “My favorite thing about Halloween though is going back to my hometown in Louisiana. My whole neighborhood has a big kickback where people hand out chips, food, and sweets. My mother hands out chips while my father DJs at the front door. “I don’t celebrate Halloween but it’s fun to see other people and kids enjoy their night of excitement,” Metoyer said.

A moderate amount of people do not enjoy Halloween and don’t see it worthy of their celebration. “I don’t like to celebrate Halloween because of its history. It has turned into something that is too dark and horrific,”  Senior Cardell Davidson said. “Instead of celebrating Halloween I go to Church, or I go to a Fall Festival.” Some people think Halloween is too scary and has gone too far. “I don’t enjoy Halloween; it’s scary, and this makes it unenjoyable. People are always knocking on my door and disturbing me while I’m in my room playing games or trying to sleep.”  Sophomore Francesco Di Nardo said. Perspectives on Halloween vary depending on the person and all of them are respectively correct in their own opinions. This makes Halloween different in its own way. Regardless, Halloween is a unique time of year that holds something different every year.
