Photo show showcases work

Every semester, the library fills with the best works of the photo students. From Photo I to Photo VI students, this week over 450 entries are on display in numerous categories.
“All of [my] students are required to enter. It’s mostly Photos I-IV students, but there are also Photo V and VI students who take the courses as independent study. They’re required to enter seven portfolios,” photo teacher Eric Mittman said.
Over the course of a week, classes traipse through the show and can vote for their favorite photos. The top three photos voted on by students are given people’s choice ribbons, with nine honorable mentions.
“We also do judge’s choice [awards], where three judges come in and judge the photos across seven different categories. [There] will be first, second and third in [each] category. One [of the judges] is a professional portrait photographer up in Nashville, another is the chair of a college photo department and the other is a Huntsville Times staff photographer,” Mittman said.
Both the people’s choice and judge’s choice awards will be announced next week.
