Baseball team faces tough loss in semi-finals

The varsity baseball team was eager to redeem themselves after last year’s tough loss in state finals.

The boys played Thompson High School at home for this season’s semi-finals on Friday and Saturday. The first game looked promising until Thompson was able to make their way back and pull out a 7-5 win.

“I thought we played well coming up to the last inning, but, you know, it’s baseball so errors happen,” sophomore Glen Whitaker said.

Luckily, their chances started to look up in the second game of the series as the boys ended the game in a 7-5 win.

“They still scored their fair amount of runs, but we hit the ball well. We kept up and just happened to score more,” sophomore Jared Howell said.

With one win and one loss in a two game series, the two teams played a third, tie-breaking game on Saturday. The game started at 1 p.m. and lasted about two hours.

The boys fought hard but could not pull out a win. They lost 11-3.

The team agrees that they are going to work harder now and next season for a better result.
