Football team sets new record with blowout against Grissom
October 23, 2015
The football team set a new school record for points scored in a game as they traveled to Milton Frank Stadium on Thursday night to take on the Grissom Tigers.
This week was a complete turnaround of last week’s crosstown rival loss to James Clemens 28-0. This week the team seemed almost unstoppable, scoring in just about any way possible. The Senators scored on five touchdown passes, three touchdowns on the ground, a pick-six and a punt return for a TD. They also outgained Grissom in yards gained 482 to 161. The dismantling of Grissom snaps the Senators three game losing streak.
This game will go down in the record books as Sparkman scored 71 points which breaks a record set 53 years ago in 1962 when the Senators put up 60 points against Hazel Green High School. Grissom also set a new record but it’s not very attractive, the Tigers previous record set in 2011 to the hands of Bob Jones giving up 63 points will now be replaced by Sparkmans 71 points.
Sparkman’s record is 3-6. If they win and improve to 4-6 it will be the first season since 2006 that the Senators surpassed three wins in one season. In 2006 they went 10-2. The Senators will now be giving their full attention to senior night as they take on the Brewer Patriots next Friday at home on Oct. 30.
