Green hits clutch three-pointer to win game
The gym erupted. The student section piled onto senior basketball player Jalen Green all in celebration of a 40-38 win over area foe Bob Jones.
Green hit a clutch three-pointer with .3 seconds on the clock to clinch the team’s third area win of the season.
“When he released it, I knew it was going in,” head coach Jamie Coggins said. “It was a great shot and I’m happy that Jalen had the opportunity to win the game like that.”
The Senators had a dismal first three halves in the area match-up, scoring only 13 points in the first half. A fourth quarter surge with a couple of turnovers gave the team the boost they needed to set up the win. Bob Jones missed one of two free throws with 9.6 seconds on the clock. Green got the rebound and quickly handed it to senior Darreon Miller who passed to senior point guard Brandon Miller. Miller found Green in the left corner for the shot.
The team is currently 3-0 in the area. They are on the road Dec. 21-22 in Atlanta playing in the War Eagle Classic.
