The varsity boys basketball team took off from the first minute of the Jan. 15 game against area foe Hazel Green, winning the game 78-51 and claiming the team’s fourth area win of the season.

“The team came out with such energy and our shooting percentage went up for this game. It was exciting,” coach Jamie Coggins said.

Hazel Green closed the 13 point gap to four in the third quarter, but a 3-pointer by junior Maurice Anderson kept the Senators from allowing the Trojans to get any closer.

Senior Brandon Miller was the team’s leading scorer with 18 points.

“He played like a machine, hitting shots and most importantly driving the ball to the hoop,” Coggins said.

The team is currently tied with James Clemens to host the area tournament. They face area opponent Bob Jones on Friday, Jan. 23 to claim the out right title.

Girls

The girls fell to Hazel Green, 38-31 for the second time this season. Hazel Green will host the girls’ area tournament in February with this win.
