The softball team went undefeated to win the state championship in Montgomery this weekend.

With a record of 46-16, the Sparkman softball team advances to the state finals which are held in Montgomery. Senior Bailey Mayes could not be more excited.

“The most fun part about going is definitely the feeling of playing for a state title. Playing in Montgomery with the best softball teams in the state is something to be proud of and there’s no other team I’d rather be there with than the team I have now,” Mayes said.

Hours and hours of practice eventually pay off when one finally knows that one is on the way to gaining a state title. Being willing to give up time hanging out with friends and family means a person is really dedicated and love playing the sport.

“It takes hard work, dedication and teamwork. We couldn’t do any of it alone. It takes focus. We have to stay focused all season on getting better and doing the right things to get to Montgomery,” Mayes said.

Just being in Montgomery with the best softball teams all around Alabama is an accomplishment. With loud fans in the stand cheering on, the only thing you’re thinking about is how proud one is school, family, friends, coaches and one is teammates will be if you take that state title back home.

“ There is nothing quite like knowing all the hard work put in is paying off and you’re one step closer to reaching your final goal is a great feeling,” Mayes said.
