Softball wins state championship

The softball team went undefeated to win the state championship in Montgomery this weekend.

The softball team went undefeated over the weekend to win the 2016 Alabama High School Athletic Association’s state softball championship.

The team defeated Auburn and Vestavia Hills to make it to the final game where they face Spain Park. The team won 9-2. It was the sixth championship for the school.

“I’m so proud of these girls. They believed in each other, ” coach Dale Palmer said.

The Senators started off with a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Senior Bailey Mayes did a dive to make the final out of the game.

“I knew we had it in the end. I knew we could do it,” Mayes said.
