Junior Olympics welcome track athlete

August 12, 2016

Over the summer one of our juniors, Lauryn Hall, went on a competitive journey to two of the Junior Olympics. With much persistence she strives to be competing in 2020 Summer Olympics.

“In California, I placed 5th in the 200m and 9th in the 100m dash, Hall said. “In Texas, I placed 6th in the 100m and the 200m dash.”

The Junior Olympics competition held in Houston, Texas on Aug. 1-5 caused Hall to miss the first three days of her junior year. She has dedicated the past three years to track and without her drive to be her very best she would not be where she is today.

“Of course I wanted to be there with everyone else on the first day but duty calls and I knew I would make Sparkman proud and also quickly catch up on school,” Hall said.

Preparing for meets and staying in shape over the summer is one of Hall’s biggest time consumers. She practices every Monday through Thursday and then has a meet almost every Saturday.

“Now that I am officially on off-season, I stay in shape by doing water exercises and some weight training after a month of relaxation,” Hall said.

Hall has a very strong support system with her at the meets. It normally consist of family and teammates. One of Hall’s friends actually convinced her to try out for the track team in the 8th grade.

“In Sacramento, I was the only athlete competing for my team so it was only my parents and I. In Houston, My family, AAU team, and a former coach came along,” Hall said.

Hall is striving to go to the Olympic games in 2020 in Tokyo. She plans on working hard and doing whatever it takes to get there. As for now, she is resting from her very eventful summer.

“Look for me in 2020 in Tokyo,” Hall said.
