Regular Season Ends, Team Heads to Playoffs
The football team has made their way to the playoffs again, but to get there they went through some tough and challenging games.
Thompson vs Sparkman was one of them. The team lost, 55-0 to a team ranked number one in 7A at the time.
The team never backed down and after a loss against Gardendale they brought home a win against Albertville, 47-26. And from there the team continued to win against Grissom 46-0, Austin 38-21 and Huntsville 28-27, all area games. They ended the season, 4-5.
“I would say we had a pretty good season. I feel we could have done things a little different and it also would have went better if we didn’t have so many injuries,” junior Cayden Sloan said.
Close calls seemed to be the theme of a couple of games this season, including the Sparkman vs Bob Jones game. The Senators had a good start in the first and second quarter, scoring 0-7 and 6-14 respectively, but ending with a loss, 25-21.
The Senators homecoming game against Huntsville was another close call. During the fourth quarter, junior Matthew Rozier scored the winning touchdown which pushed the team to the playoffs and a 28-27 victory.
“It felt like a very surreal moment. I felt like I needed to make a play in that moment so I did what had to be done in the face of adversity,” Rozier said.
The team will face number-one ranked Hoover on Friday at 7p.m. at the Hoover Metro Stadium. Tickets can be purchased on GoFan.com.
