After a slow start to the season, varsity softball won their game on Feb.26 versus Athens, 20-17.
“Our season started off a little rocky, but I feel like as we keep going, we tend to get better. And that’s for both varsity and JV teams,” senior Kaitlyn Fletcher said.
The team launched the season off playing against Hazel Green and unfortunately lost that game 4-11. That was followed by a loss against Hartselle and the win against Athens.
Although the season started off rocky, Fletcher hasn’t let that discourage her and her teammates and they restlessly work to refine their game plans in practice.
The next area game they have coming up is an away game against Grissom on March 5. Coach Morris has high expectations for the girls and hopes to gain the opportunity to host the area tournament and progress to regionals and state.
“Overall, a record doesn’t really tell us much. We’ve had some close ball games and we’ve hit the ball really well. We’re making adjustments every time we step on the field. So ultimately, I see a lot of progress and excitement,” Morris said
