The 2024 World Series has finally concluded with the Los Angeles Dodgers defeating the New York Yankees in game five with a 7-6 win to get their eighth World Series Championship in franchise history and their second championship in the past five years.
Game one of the World Series was in Dodger Stadium, and the scoring got started when Will Smith hit a sacrifice fly to score Enrique Hernandez. The Yankees answered back with a 412-foot homerun missile to get a 2-1 lead over the Dodgers. Dodgers hit another sacrifice fly by Mookie Betts to score Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani. In extra innings, Anthony Volpe hit a fielder’s choice groundout to shortstop to score Jazz Chisholm Jr to regain the lead 3-2. Freddie Freeman hit a grand slam to win the game in walk-off fashion 6-3.
In Game 2 the scoring started with a 355-foot homer by Tommy Edman. The Yankees matched that in inning three with a 363-foot solo homer by Juan Soto. Dodgers gained back the lead with a Teoscar Hernandez two-run homer. Freddie Freeman added to the lead with a solo homer to make the score 4-1. Giancarlo Stanton singled to left to score Juan Soto, but that wasn’t enough to overtake the Dodgers, and they took the loss 4-2.
To start Game 3, Freddie Freeman hit his third home run of the postseason to take an early 2-0 lead. In the third inning, Mookie Betts hit a single to right field to score Tommy Edman to add to the lead. Enrique Hernandez added on to the lead with a single to right field to score Gavin Lux. In the final inning, the Yankees scored two points thanks to Alex Verdugo’s two-run homer. The last-inning effort wasn’t enough to defeat the red-hot Dodgers.
The Yankees were trying to avoid the sweep in Game four of the World Series at Yankee Stadium. Freddie Freeman hits his fourth home run of the World Series to gain an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. In the second inning, Alex Verdugo grounded out to first to score Anthony Volpe. In the next inning, Anthony Volpe hit a grand slam to take a 5-2 lead over the Dodgers. In inning 5, Will Smith hits a home run, and Freddie Freeman hits a ground out to score Tommy Edman to cut the Yankees lead 5-4. Austin Wells hits a 384-foot homer to extend the lead 6-4. In inning eight, the Yankees scored a combined five runs with Alex Verdugo’s fielder choice to score Austin Wells, Gleyber Torres 3 3-run homer, and Aaron Judge’s single to left field to score Juan Soto. With the bullpen shutting down the Dodgers lineup, the Yankees win game four with an 11-4 win to get their first win of the World Series.
In Game Five of the World Series, The Yankees started the game hot with a two-run homer by Aaron Judge and a solo home run by Jazz Chisholm Jr to make the lead 3-0. Alex Verdugo added to the score in the second inning with a single to score Anthony Volpe. Giancarlo followed up the next inning with a solo home run to extend the lead to 5-0. The scoring started for the Dodgers in inning five with Mookie Betts infield single to score Enrique Hernandez, Freddie Freeman with a single to center to score two runs, and Teoscar Hernandez doubled to center to score two runs to cap off inning five and tie the game. In the next inning, Giancarlo Stanton hit a sacrifice fly to score Juan Soto to gain the lead back to 6-5. In the top of inning eight, Gavin Lux hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Enrique Hernandez to tie the game, and Mookie Betts hit another sacrifice fly to score Tommy Edman to get the lead 7-6. Walker Buehler got the last three outs to clinch the World Series.
