Marilyn Broderick, the new Spanish teacher, has stepped up to the plate to take over a Spanish class, as well as Spanish Club. Broderick brought quite a bit of experience to the table, having lived in the towns of Leόn and Seville for a total of 5 years in Spain.
The Spanish Club has not elected officers yet, but has already discussed possible activities and projects for the club in the near future.
“Because I’m a new teacher, I am waiting to see what ideas the students come up with. One fundraiser they’re talking about is maybe having a dance, where we teach lessons the first half hour to an hour, and then have a regular school dance, and doing a community service project,” Broderick said.
Spanish Club is also planning to go on a trip to Spain with the other Spanish teacher, Carla Terry, during spring break, or “Holy Week.” The trip is open to all students, and will be for the entire week of spring break.
Broderick’s goal is for her students to know the essential parts of the Spanish language by the end of the semester.
“I hope that all the students can walk out of my classroom with basic, functional travel Spanish,” Broderick said.
