Since the release of the Model T in the year 1908, America has expressed an undying love for the automobile. This was evident at the Band Car show this past Saturday.
One of the car shows numerous attendees was car owner John Aufderhar. At the show, Aufderhar showcased his 43-year-old orange 1972 Datsun 240z. Since 2005, Aufderhar has completely restored his car by adding in a five speed transmission, camming the engine, adding a bigger exhaust, and replacing the header. Addition to the countless hours he has invested in his project, Aufderhar has spent twice as much money
“This car probably has about 30 thousand dollars just in restoration,” Aufderhar said, “You are going to put in a lot of money into the restoration of a vehicle if you do it right.”
Auferhar’s long history with cars began in high school. Even though he could not purchase one, the cars around him still peaked his interest.
“I always loved the cars from the fifties through the seventies, I liked their body style and their history really just interests me,” Aufderhar said.
While he was attending college, Aufderhar purchased his first car, a 1963 Chevy Impala two door hardtop. This sparked his long time interest in cars. Since then, he has purchased around ten different cars, including a Toyota pickup truck, a 1995 BMW, and a 2007 Honda s2000 Convertible.Even though he was bought many nice and interesting cars, his favorite vehicle is this Datsun, the car he had decided to showcase. Aufderhar said he would not change anything about this car if he was given the opportunity to. He would keep it the same.
Aufderhar says not only does he love seeing the different cars at the shows he attends, but he loves showing others his cars. Since 2005, Aufderhar has participated in over a hundred car shows.
“During good weather, this is what I do,” he said, “I am retired now, and my hobby is going to car shows.”
