It was simply a coincidence that on the same day that English teacher Angie Silvey finished reading Macbeth to her class that Queen Elizabeth II became the longest reigning monarch of the United Kingdom.

In order to celebrate this new record, Earl Grey was brewed and scones made. The students enjoyed Queen Elizabeth’s favorite tea and homemade scones whist reading the final pages of one of Shakespeare’s famous tragedies: Macbeth.

“I think it’s really cool,” senior Tylor Harris said. “I think it’s neat that she wanted to engage in something that is not just school like taking notes and reading.”

Due to AP English 12 being composed of mainly British literature, Silvey has much knowledge of the history of Britain and their monarchs. As well as knowing the history, Silvey has kept up with current events.

“When I realized that [Queen Elizabeth II] would break the record this year we tried to figure out some way to celebrate,” Silvey said. “[Queen Elizabeth] passed her great great grandmother queen Victoria,” Silvey said. “She has been queen over 63 years. 23,226 days.”
