FCCLA hosts walk to raise funds for breast cancer
October 30, 2015
Yesterday, Family Career and Community Leaders of America, or FCCLA, hosted their fifth annual charity walk, in order to raise money for breast cancer research.
The walk, held during third block, cost each class $20 to attend. In addition to entrance funds, the walk featured activities such as cupcake sales, a ring toss, a pie throw and balloon releases, all purchasable for a dollar or less. It was vice president Anna Spray’s second time volunteering at the walk. This year, Spray dedicated her time to selling cupcakes for the cause.
“We do it to encourage students to donate money for this cause,” Spray said. “Breast Cancer awareness is important because so many families are affected by it daily.”
President Payton Williams has been a strong catalyst for FCCLA community involvement and this year a driving force in this year’s walk.
“It’s a personal cause for all of us. It’s personal for Mrs.Webster and it’s personal for so many of our members. Cancer hits all of us,” Williams said.
The walk raised over $2,400 for the Clearview Cancer Institute.
