Teacher juggles multiple school activities

Teacher Renee Quaife is involved in numerous clubs and activities for the schools. As a student has to balance extracurricular activities, Quaife has to balance the variety of programs she advises and sponsors.

“I try to prioritize what comes first, second, third and so on.” Quaife said. “I do not necessarily value some programs over the other[s]. However, some are more time-consuming than others.”

For example, Quaife sponsors Writers’ Club. She describes this program to be more “low key” than some of the other clubs.

“We meet on Mondays and write and study about writing,” Quaife said.

She is a major part of the club, but the club itself mostly meets during school hours and does not consume as much time as other activities she is involved in.

One of the programs that does consume more time is the Literary Magazine. This particular activity turns out to be one of the first Quaife was involved in and that she has grown a passion for. Throughout this program, the group hosts events such as the Arts Festival to raise money.

Along with Writers’ Club and Literary Magazine, Quaife also is part of Robotics, Feature Teachers of Alabama and other small or less-mentioned programs.

“I enjoy volunteering because I love giving back to the school and giving students opportunities,” Quaife said. “All of the programs are great opportunities for students to explore and be a part of something they enjoy. Not only do some give back to the school, but also perform a great amount of community service.”

Being involved in a large number of activities that all require commitment can cause stress, however Quaife overcomes the stress because it is all worth the effort.
