Library receives new computers

Students no longer have to stare into the screens of slow-working computers after principal Chris Shaw recently purchased new technology, using funds from the general school account, for the library.
For the past two years the library’s computers have stopped working, leaving our school without enough technology to supply one class. Over the past few years the librarian Lynn Presley has sent countless letters to Alabama state representatives only to be turned down due to needs in other schools. Finally, the library received 40 new Chromebooks and 10 new desktops to replace the ones that ceased to work.
“I’m very glad we finally [received] new computers. The computers we used to have were donated three or four years ago, but they were already pretty old,” Presley said.
According to Technology Specialist Pamela Hooton, before the 10 desktop computers can be used, they have to be set up to the school’s network. Although students will have to wait to use the desktops, classes are allowed to use the Chromebooks. However, the teacher must reserve the entire library in order for their class to use them.
“It will be a minimum of two weeks before the students are able to use the new desktops, but I believe they will benefit from the new opportunity to have Microsoft Office and faster working computers,” Hooton said.
