Lack of participation causes upcoming end for club

Four years ago English teacher Renee Quaife started yet another club: Future Teachers of America. FTA has been active throughout the four school years and even a few summers. Despite this year having the most amount of members — 24 — Quaife has decided to put the once-loved club to sleep.
“In the past couple of meetings hardly anyone has come and the things I’m planning hardly anyone is doing and the ones that are doing things are seniors,” Quaife said.
Quaife began the club when she realized how difficult and exasperating it was to get a substitute teacher. Jokingly, she began a “sub club” — a club for future teachers. When Quaife realized that students were actually interested, she changed the name and began holding meetings.
“The first year we got started we had a meeting over the summer and everything had gone really well,” Quaife said.
The lack of participation has frustrated the active teacher. Meetings held only a fraction of members and the fundraisers were not being participated in. After much consideration, Quaife has decided to dedicate her energy to her other clubs instead.
“It really makes me sad because I really have a heart for kids who want to be teachers. I’ve really enjoyed it but it’s a lot of work. I just decided that it wasn’t going to be worth my time, energy and my stress when I could devote my time elsewhere,” Quaife said.
