Teens for Jeans drive brings hope to homeless youths

In the United States, over two million youths suffer from homelessness every single year. The main thing they often request is a pair of jeans.

Key Club’s sponsor, Jessica Graves, has encouraged students to bring pairs of jeans for a project called Teens for Jeans. Its objective is to help other children in the community through donations of gently-worn jeans to a drive in the school or community. They then are donated at a local charity.

Members of Key Club are collecting and painting boxes and placing them around the school. The idea was put into action after a member of Key Club discovered this charitable project.

“One of our members found out about the project online and brought it to the club. We voted on it and decided that it will be a good project for the club,” Graves said.

Key Club wants the Teens for Jeans project they are executing more known throughout the school. They hope to encourage each student to bring pairs of jeans.

“We’re making announcements — word of mouth is the main thing,” Graves said. “Teachers should encourage their students to bring and the teachers should also bring because it’s really any size.”

Graves has set a goal for the pairs of jeans for the youth in the community. She aspires to at least collect 100.

“It would be nice if we can get at least 100. I think that will be a reasonable goal for the school,” Graves said.
