Brothers move across the world

Moving can cause lots of stress, especially when one is moving to a new country and leaving everything familiar behind.
Brothers junior Landon Baker and sophomore Evan Baker are both starting a new life in the Luxembourg. This move will present new opportunities for the both of them.
“I’m excited to live in a new place and to be immersed within a culture so different from our own,” Landon said. “It can be daunting to think about, but I believe it will be a positive experience.”
Landon will be attending International School of Luxembourg, which is a school for students all over the world, giving him a chance to make new friends just like him.
“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried about making friends and fitting in,” Landon said. “It’s frightening to anyone when meeting new people, but getting out of our comfort zones and living life will only help us grow.”
The move came up with a new job opportunity for their dad, who has been living in Luxembourg since November. He has given the boys a vivid image of what Luxembourg is about from the pictures they have been sent.
“It was a big decision that we all had a choice in, and in the end, all four of us decided that we wanted to go on this amazing adventure together,” Landon said.
This move will give the family a chance to connect with people from a different side of the world, introducing them to new languages and cultures.
“It’s an extremely small country, around the size of Rhode Island, and is located between France, Germany, and Belgium,” Landon said. “The most common languages are French and German, although most people know English as well.”
Landon says one of his biggest problems is leaving his friends. The years full of friendship and memories with them that he could never replace.
“I’m not as scared to leave my friends as I am sad,” Landon said. “They’re all so important to me, especially the ones I’ve had most of my life. None of them want me to leave and have begged me to stay.”
Although making new friends would be tough, Landon knows that there are big things ahead for him and his family.
“If I’ve learned one thing from the move, it’s that life is short and beautiful, so take every chance you can get to live your life to its fullest extent,” Landon said. “Never let opportunity pass by, because you’ll regret it for the rest of your life.”
