Student believes earth is flat

Though he lives in a city known for its enormous involvement with NASA, junior Lance Lindner stands confidently behind ideas that contradict what NASA has taught people all over the world for decades.
Lindner is strongly believes that the Earth is flat despite the fact that scholars and scientists proved it to be a sphere for centuries. Lindner’s interest in the shape of the Earth first began when he was searching through YouTube like many do when they become bored. He fell across an interview about a man attempting to prove that the earth was flat.
“I was listening to an interview on the subject and thought flat earth was the most ridiculous idea ever. I thought I could debunk it in ten minutes,” Lindner said.
After months and months of research about a flat Earth, Lindner then came to the conclusion that he believed that the Earth was not a sphere as he had been told all of his life. Since finding the video, Lindner has put much time, energy and research into digging deeper to discover the true form of the Earth’s shape.
Part of this process of digging deeper has caused Lindner to find ways to dispute evidence brought forth by organizations such as NASA, which shows that the Earth is flat like NASA claimed — the first being photography. Lindner believes most photographic evidence brought forth by NASA showing the nature of the Earth has been fabricated.
“NASA only had one ‘real’ full picture of the earth from space before 2015. How much evidence for the globe do we have? When adjusting contrast levels on pictures and seeing amateur mistakes in editing such as giant boxes around the earth, one must conclude that something is wrong,” Lindner said. “After spending a few hundred hours watching ISS feeds and analyzing footage, there are too many problems to count.”
Along with analyzing data that others have collected, Lindner has taken time to venture out and gather some of his own. One experiment that Lindner performed to help him find out more about the Earth was testing the true distance between the sun and the Earth. By performing this experiment, Lindner believed he was able to determine of the distance that the Earth is from the sun is not 93,000,000 miles as most people have concluded.
“Take a picture of the sun three hours before sunset and 10 minutes before sunset. If you can find a location with minimal horizon obstruction (ie: houses, mountains, trees) you can continuously film the sun descending. Measure the size of the sun, at different times,” Lindner said. “If the sun is 93,000,000 miles away, you should expect a size difference of less than 0.00000009 percent. If you have a change greater than that and are using the solar filter, the sun is behaving in a way that is impossible at 93,000,000 miles.”
Lindner has performed different tests aside from this and firmly believes that tests such as these provided evidence that the world is indeed flat. Though Lindner believes firmly in his ideals, he feels that no person should read his research and believe solely off of that. Lindner wants everyone to go out and research like he has and to determine for themselves what they think the earth’s shape is.
“In today’s society, we are raised to detest critical thinking. In school, the ‘smart’ children are the ones who can regurgitate the most information, not the ones who wonder and question. Instead of flourishing as individuals in a zetetic, scientific model of education, we are indoctrinated into a cult,” Lindner said. “When someone can do research and back up an assertion with evidence, developing and defending a position and viewpoint on issues and problems, they have learned how to think critically.”
