Find yourself here

August 24, 2016

With distractions piled on distractions, life can get heavy. The weight of society surrounding a high school student, or anyone really, can cling to their shoulders and without them even noticing, they will carry it around with them everywhere. They will cling to a life where they only exist and do not really live anymore.

Every once in awhile, if we are fortunate enough, we will come across a moment where we metaphorically open our eyes. Senior Madison Harding was hit with reality and decided she wanted to make a change in the lives surrounding her. In order to do so she started an inspiring blog.

“I want people to see that life is not all about what other people think and say; it is about yourself and figuring out what you want out of the experience,” Harding said.

Each of her blog posts range from tearjerkers to her experiences in the wild world. Her favorite thing to advocate to her readers is not to get caught up in what other people in the world think about you.

“Ever since I was a kid I never cared about what people thought of me. My mom raised me to be myself and love every bit of it,” Harding said. “In elementary school I would wear crazy outfits and people would talk about me; that’s when I realized I should do what makes me happy and not what people expect of me.”

It is not easy for just anyone to achieve that mindset and voice experiences in a moving way towards everyone. It takes optimism, an abundant amount of love for others and a strong sense of self.

“To me you are more beautiful when you lay your own path, when you go against the rules and the perfect that humanity sets for us,” Harding said. “We are the own writers of our story, not the world.”
