Cleats on the field and cheers from the stands means teams are ready to take the title of state champions.
Ranked number one the varsity softball team played the area tournament May 9 and 10. They played against three teams and won all games against: Huntsville, 1-0, Austin, 14-1 and Florence, 7-1. The wins are sending the team into the state tournament for a third consecutive year.
“It is always an honor just to make it to the tournament and its extra special because this group of kids worked so hard to have a chance to play three in a row,” softball coach Dale Palmer said.
Senior Jordan Bullock realizes this year will be her last as a high school softball player but either way she is prepared to look back on what a good season the team had and how they will leave the season.
“I hope it ends on a positive note, even if we don’t finish with a blue map, we know we left it all on the field and gave it everything we had,” Bullock said.
The team has proven their worthiness to the school and to the coach. They have prepared for the tournament and feel they deserve to be in the tournament after all their hard work and their coach’s support.
“The first two years we have deserved [to go the tournament] because we have worked so hard and this year we have worked just as hard if not harder because we know we have a huge target on our back,” Bullock said.
The girls have proved to coach Palmer that they have what it takes to take hope the title of area champs but no matter what the outcome, the team still have the season with 59 wins to 4 losses. And for coah palmer his girls are already winners.
“In my opinion they’ve already won,” Palmer said.
