The team signals that they have the ball after a Scottsboro fumble.

The atmosphere in the stands was electric as the regular football season was kicked off. Despite this, the football team fell just short against Scottsboro High School in their opening game, losing 34-24.
The team looked like it was on the way to a close win, bringing a 10-6 halftime lead into the locker room. Scottsboro rallied in the second half behind a renewed offensive attack.
The defense held stout in the first half, allowing only one touchdown. The second half, on the other hand, was a different story for the defense. Whether Scottsboro made brilliant offensive changes at halftime or fatigue was affecting the defense, the second half saw the defense get shredded on many plays and allow long scoring drives. Scottsboro took the lead emphatically by scoring two touchdowns in two quick offensive series. The team responded with a long touchdown play on the next drive to pull close at 20-17.
The offense had a fairly pedestrian game overall with one exception. Jordan Joiner showed explosiveness on multiple plays including the first touchdown scored in the game. Joiner caught a short pass and burst forward for 44 yards to open the scoring.
Overall the team played hard in its first game with new coach Chris Cagle at the helm, but in the end came up a little short.
