Percy Jackson and the Olympians fans need to rejoice. A standalone novel following the demigod Nico De Angelo and his boyfriend Will Solace in which they travel to the depths of Tartarus and fight evil creatures, deities, and the undead. Nico is a child of the Greek god of death Hades and Will is the son of the Greek god of the sun Apollo. They both come from a place known as Camp Half-Blood. The camp is a magical safe zone for demigods as all demigods have a scent that non-mortal creatures can smell. Some demigods are able to live outside of the camp during the school year but others are there year round. Nico was born in the 1930s but to save his life from Zeus, Hades put him in a magical hotel known as the Lotus Hotel and Casino which manipulates time. For Nico he was there for two weeks but in the outside world time passed by 70 years. Will was born in Atlanta, Georgia after his mother attracted the attention of Apollo with her music.(He is the god of multiple things besides the sun including medicine and music). The age difference between the two boyfriends is two years with Will being 17 and Nico being 15.

When writing this book Rick Riordan enlisted the help of Mark Oshiro who was an already distinguished LGBTQ author to help him write and form the queer relationship between Nico and Will as he did not really understand how to write relationships in that way.

Nico has an extremely dark and saddened past that readers can learn about in Riordn’s previous series Percy Jackson and The Olympians and The Heroes of Olympus. Although the reading of those series would help readers better understand his past, reading them is not necessary for the reading of this book. Will was more of a minor character in the previous series only really mentioned as the Healer son of Apollo or the leader of the Apollo cabin.

Together the two will be there for each other and the journey will be exciting and mind blowing.
